X Factor USA: Cece Frey’s sultry take on Sexy And I Know It

Cece Frey - Sexy - X Factor Season 2

Someone get Cece Frey help fast! That leopard print birthmark on her face has spread to her legs!

Seriously though, it looks like Cece will be ditching the face paint gimmick after her appearance at Demi Lovato’s judges houses session. Demi had some harsh home truths for the X Factor USA hopeful, mostly about her unlikeable stage persona.

Cece countered by saying that the leopard print was a mask for her inner vulnerability, then proceeded to cry with eerily tearless eyes. It’s funny, but what I see when I look at Cece is an incredibly confident, ambitious young girl. She’s stunningly beautiful, she has an incredibly good singing voice. Seriously, I listened to her boot camp version of I Will Always Love You last night, and she blew Paige Thomas out of the water.

X Factor USA: Cece Frey sings for Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato

Unfortunately, Cece does have a lot of work to do to build an audience. If she’s unlikeable, no-one will vote for her, and despite her crazier moments, I really do believe she’s got The X Factor. And I don’t say that about a lot of contestants. She’s memorable. She’s striking. She’s funny.

But on to that version of Sexy And I Know It. Despite the talk from Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas, she opted for this song? It could have been a disaster, but Cece gave it a brilliant, unique take, changing up the melody and making it a fun and sultry number rather than the electro-pop awesomeness of the original. And by and large, it worked. If I were Lovato, I’d be imagining what fun Cece Frey could be having on stage at the live shows.

After the audition performance, Cece went backstage and ‘emotionally’ spoke about how she’s ‘tired of holding it together’. I’m not buying it. I think she’s unconvincingly trying to show vulnerability, but it just doesn’t track with what we’ve seen so far. Nick and Demi seemed to think their pep talk had done the trick in making Cece less ‘overconfident’, but seriously: how does that explain the Sexy And I Know It song choice?

She is awesome!! So much in fact I just saw the show and had to google for more of her (and found this).

I agree with all your points, but I like her the way she is and hope others do to. The world need strong confident wemen, and its OK to “know it”.

She is soooo hot and awesome!! She has the whole package and can win it all. I had to also look her up online. WOW factor!!

  3. R.C. says:

oh she has way passed the strong confidence she has crossed into the cocky full of self type of confidence and thats 1 the main reasons why so many dislike her. What she says, How she acts, etc. She needs to show vunerablity and real geninuine niceness not fake put on niceness. Otherwise u might get some guys watching because oh she is hot and they want her but once the show is over so she will be. Females won’t buy her music & not because they are jealous or haters or whatever. Did she have better auditions than cece yes but she has a lot of work to do to get ppl to like her. I hope she shows that she is more than just a pretty picture & that her cocky kind of confidence etc doesnt get in the way & she is not what editing from xfactor has shown. I fear all this will distract ppl and her vocal talent gets forgotten and not paid attention to & she is voted off by viewers.

Didn’t know that females voted as a block; thought that they were individuals who could have their own opinions, just as we guys do. Should take a few steps back and try to understand why she has had to protect her feelings. She is not all that far removed from high school and you all know what that was like.

I’ve known CeCe since she was 8 years old. In fact, that’s how long she’s been singing in public. I taught her music and piano when she was in high school. She comes from a great family – the oldest of three – and two younger brothers. She’s driven and can be cocky and sweet at the same time . . . but she’s not being fake. So however you feel about her personality, she is who she is, but she’s worked very hard her whole life to get to this point … so, CeCe, I wish you the best! :-)

  6. Tony says:

I’m pretty sure she had chosen and prepared that song already when she got that feedback about not being too confident. She had to go with it, and that’s why she was so apologetic about that song choice. There wasn’t time to change songs. I think it was brutal that Demi gave them all pointers right before they performed, without giving them time to internalize what she had just said. It negatively affected Jennel and Jillian’s performances, too; they were about to sing and she’s like “don’t mess w/ your hair so much… don’t make that face”. Mistake, Demi.

This girl has attitude. So what ?? You need confidence and attitude Demi. She has the look, the voice, the performance. Isn’t this a winning combination or am I missing something ? Of course people are jealous of her and say she is this, she is that. What the heck. Not her fault she has the X-Factor and I am sure she will probably win the whole damn thing.

  8. daisy says:

I find her annoying and unlikeable, fake in her tears and arrogant. Thats just me though.

  9. RC says:

The show does probably edit her to be worse than she is BUT that said they cant totally make up stuff. She has to say and do stuff to give them stuff to use. As for confidence nothing wrong with that BUT she has crossed a line there into something that is beyond that… I wont elaborate on this 1. As for people being jealous… I can’t speak for everyone but personally I’m not as there is nothing to be jealous of.

    • I’ve got to say, I wonder if Demi Lovato isn’t sabotaging Cece a little bit. I just feel that the song choices, the awful staging and her negative comments to Cece in the rehearsal segments we’re seeing are all setting her up to fail.

You are right…it can spread LOL
