Who Will Replace Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger on The X Factor?
Just this week Fox confirmed that Simon Cowell and company cleaned house on The X Factor. Judges Nicole Scherzinger, Paula Abdul and host Steven Jones were not invited back for a second season. Fox has not offered any hints as to who will fill the roster, but the Internet is ablaze with rumors.
The host- Ryan Seacrest’s contract is up with American Idol at the end of season 11. Though NBC is already trying to nab him for The Today Show, insiders suggest Cowell is just as anxious to get Seacrest for The X Factor. Sources say Seacrest is currently negotiating with American Idol for future seasons, but he’s demanding A LOT of money. Some feel that American Idol may not meet his demands, but Cowell is waiting with checkbook in hand. Would it really be a good career move for Seacrest? Does he have a loyal enough following that people would tune into the “second hand” American Idol?
The judges- The X Factor is down both female judges. Instead of looking for two mediocre- famous women, it appears that The X Factor is going big. Mariah Carey, Victoria Beckham and Fergie are just three names that came up so far as the show plans for a second season.
Rumors suggest that Beckham is a way to string in Seacrest. Beckham made it clear as she refuses to reunite with the Spice Girls this year that she has no interest in being a popstar. Though she had a successful career, she’s fashion focused. Her guest judging gig on American Idol was entertaining, but it’s likely she wouldn’t have time to judge The X Factor.
Nick Cannon recently shared his opinion on Mariah Carey joining The X Factor. “Like Nicole Scherzinger, my wife is not a fan of judging people… Personally, I think these shows are really good shows, but when you get someone of status or just is big-time career-wise to do these shows, I personally think it’s a step down,” he said during his Rollin’ with Nick Cannon radio show. Mimi had no problem appearing as a mentor (even if a hurricane got in the way of this) and since she’s a new mom, maybe lower-key is exactly what she needs.
Fergie could be a decent judge because she knows the ups and downs of the industry. She’s stylish and can dance, but if she has the vocal talent to stand on- that’s up for debate. Her group wouldn’t be able to boss her around because she’s fierce, but something tells me she’d be like another Nicole.
Who do you think should take over on The X Factor?
