Wolf Of Wall Street and Gravity come to Netflix
This new post will feature every week to provide you with all of Netflix’ new releases for both Television and Film.
I would begin this post by wishing you a happy work week, but as we all very well know, there’s rarely such a thing as a happy work week. So instead, we’ll talk about Netflix, because it’s awesome.
Last week, on their DVD rental platform, Netflix released a few top-tier films, including Oscar favorites like American Hustle and Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. This week brings another impressive round of releases that are sure to please. So let’s get right down to it.
THE WOLF OF WALL STREET
THE GREAT BEAUTY
LET THE FIRE BURN
WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE
THE PUNK SINGER
GIRL ON A BICYCLE
THE GEOGRAPHY CLUB
OUR RECOMMENDATIONS: THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, GRAVITY
If you are one of the unlucky few that haven’t seen Martin Scorsese’s debauched and timely tale of corporate excess, The Wolf of Wall Street, then we highly recommend you check this one out at Netflix this week. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio (in an Oscar-nominated role) and Jonah Hill (also nominated), the film charts the rise and fall of hotshot Wall Street con man Jordan Belfort as he watches his domination of the financial sector crumble in a cloud of drugs, sex, and greed. It’s almost three hours long, but it makes up for it’s length with a surprisingly engaging style that is vintage Scorsese.
If you’re more into exciting and bold adventures, then look no further than Alfonso Cuaron’s exquisite space odyssey Gravity starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Bullock plays Ryan Stone, an astronaut who finds herself struggling to survive after debris from a shattered satellite separates her from her vessel. The visuals are terrifying and at times breathtaking, and we’re with Stone every step of the way. A monumental cinematic achievement, and it also nabbed Cuaron his first Oscar for Best Director.
WE ARE WHAT WE ARE
OUR RECOMMENDATION: MUD
What better way to continue to celebrate the “McConaissance” with this quietly powerful indie gem from 2012. Co-starring Reese Witherspoon, Mud tells the tale of a fugitive who enlists two young boys to help him dodge the authorities and reunite him with the woman he loves. Director Jeff Nichols, whose previous films include Shotgun Stories and Take Shelter, plays to McConaughey’s strengths here, and the result is a dark drama that lingers long after the end credits roll. Take our word for it… you will not be disappointed.
Until next week, enjoy your Netflix my friends!
