The X Factor USA 2012: Cece Frey Shouts Her Way Through “Lady Marmalade”
Cece Frey can’t figure out what’s going wrong each week on The X Factor as she finds herself in the bottom two far too often in her opinion. I’m pretty sure the problem started the moment she stepped on stage at auditions. Cece wanted to stir up trouble as she proved that she has what it takes to be the winner of The X Factor, but she came off as an annoying, egotistical, backstabbing biotch.
Ever since the auditions Cece has struggled to be “likable” but the problem is she comes off as fake, even when she is trying to show a “tender” side each week. Truth be told- being unlikable isn’t going to kill your chances at winning if you have the talent to back it up. Unfortunately Cece does not.
Demi Lovato always says that no one wants the prize as much as Cece, but it only appears that way because she is the underdog so she has to fight the hardest. Tonight was suppose to be her big “comeback” with “Lady Marmalade,” but it had disaster written all over it.

The set looked just like a cheesy rip-off of the video from Lil Kim, Christina Aguilera, Mya and Pink. And even Cece’s outfit was a discount version of that in the video. Her vocals were awful to listen to as well because she has no idea how to control a song. Instead of letting her voice sing the song and crescendo into the louder, powerful notes, she competes with the instruments and shouts over top. The biggest problem with shouting, not singing, is it’s even harder to stay in pitch. At this point in the competition it’s beyond evident that Cece is the weakest link.
Judges Comments
The judges had mixed reactions to Cece’s imitation performance.
- L.A. Reid: You’re going down, but you’re going down fighting. If I’m to be honest. I hate that I’m going to say this, but I enjoyed that circus.
- Britney Spears: I feel like this week has been a tough week, but everyone has stepped it up.
- Simon Cowell: No one can say you’re a trier. The problem with that performance is I felt like I ate 62 slices of chocolate cake. There was too much going on, too much distracting.. my advice tonight is pack a suitcase.
- Demi Lovato: I saw that fire in your eyes that I saw at the beginning. I thought you came out swinging.
Unreality Rating: 4/10. Unoriginal. Unflattering. I’ve been over Cece for weeks. I’m not sure really who continues to vote for Cece, unless it’s trolls who enjoy watching this hot mess each week.

I actually disagree. This week I believe she fucking nailed it.
Is she going home? Yes, her, Paige and the Girl Group will be in the bottom 3, and Cece will probably get voted off immediately. But I DON’T care, because Cece is finally back to her old self, and that performance was by far her best of the live shows AND the highlight of the evening. Everyone else was boring, Carly sang another slow song with her other worldly voice again, Tate sang a song with his same tone and range again, E3 sang an upbeat happy song, again. Paige did just enough again, Vino actually did very badly tonight and the girl group was just… I mean, I get it. But they were just boring. Diamond on the other hand was up there with Cece, they both did something different.
Why should Cece’s set be called “cheesy” ? I don’t get it, it was very eloquent and beautiful, and it was a tribute to the original. Is that so bad? I feel as if poor Cece is being judged WAY too much because of the way she entered the competition (you know, as a feisty fighter girl with no sob story who wanted to win, which is EXACTLY the kind of attitude she’d need in the real world).
Am i the only person that noticed her stroking the microphone and winking while Mario gave the phone number?!?!
she will go next last time when judges criticized her most she was 5th and when she survived elimination 1st time she was up 7 when paige survived elimination she was up 4 so i believe that CeCe will go up again and i think this performance was very good because she bring something new and if she will go home I think she will be more succesful that most of other contestants
She will put out an album and the entire thing will be done on auto tune. Bitch can’t sing.
She sings better than Paige beat her in every boot camp competition. Even the judges thought so.
And what about auto tune? I don’t know if that was suppose to be an insult. Your favorite artists uses it, (Can those bitches not sing/rap either?)
I understand if you dislike her and a bit jealous but remember jealously is a female trait. Be easy homes.
There is always one that stays when a much better one goes home. Keeps the audience very much involved. Marketing at its finest!

Thank you for correctly calling out CeCe on the shouting. Did she do an okay job of shouting? Maybe, but there is at least one young performer (fifteen years old) who knows how to sing Lady Marmalade. Check out Marissa Ann on YouTube in her knockout round versus Julio. Marissa Ann slays this song and controls her voice at the same time.
It takes talent to sing Lady Marmalade I thought CeCe did good on it yes a little pitchy but I still like her better than Paige. CeCe has that look in her eye saying I want this and I’m going to prove it.
