The X Factor- Jeffrey Gutt Has Judges Praising “Hallelujah!”
Jeffrey Gutt is X Factor’s current rockstar in the making. The 36-year-old dad brought his four-year-old son, Talon, with him to auditions so his son could hear him sing for the first time. He told cameras that “failure is not an option at this point” because he needs to support his son.
When Jeffrey took stage he announced that he would be signing Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” I admit I prepared myself for the worst. Though it’s deemed one of the greatest songs ever written, I get bored with ballad after ballad during auditions.
However, Jeffrey took this oversang song and made it his own. His voice has such gravel and power that you don’t expect form this little man. It was the last run at the end of the song that won over America. Watch out Scott Stapp and Jared Leto, a rockstar with talent is on the horizon.
The judges were blown away with his performance and the crowd gave him a very deserving standing ovation. He even made Britney Spears cry!
- LA Reid; I think you are unbelievable. You chose perhaps the greatest song ever written and hit it out of the ballpark.
- Britney Spears: It was really soothing and unique. I loved it.
- Demi Lovato: There’s a tone t your voice that changed the song completely. I’ve never heard that and it changed the song completely. Even God is rocking out right now.
- Simon Cowell: I heard that sang a lot. I sat in this chair a long time. That was one of the most brilliant auditions I’ve ever heard.
Jeffrey Gutt received four yes’s and will be seen during boot camp.
Unreality Rating: 8/10. Jeffrey is good, but it took me halfway through the song to jump on his band wagon. I loved his David Cook-esque rockstar squeal at the end, but it took awhile to get there. I look forward to seeing him in boot camp.
