Twentieth Century Fox has just released a dark and arty international poster for The Wolverine, the latest movie in the X-Men franchise.

It features Hugh Jackman – torso bared (whatever happened to yellow spandex?) – lurking in the shadows of a Japanese rooftop. The claws of his left hand are extended, but he’s holding a samurai sword in the other. It looks promisingly grim, as rain falls down from the dark skies.

As we’ve previously mentioned, The Wolverine is based on a comic book arc by Chris Claremont & Frank Miller. Logan finds himself in Japan facing a mysterious new foe from his past. Jackman will be joined onscreen by Will Yun Lee as the Silver Samurai, Svetlana Khodchenkova as Viper, Brian Tee, Hiroyuki Sanada and Rila Fukushima.

The movie is due to hit theatres on July 26, 2013.
