The Walking Dead Season 2 Finale Spoilers – Beside The Dying Fire

Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) in The Walking Dead season 2 finale

Rick and the survivors are back on the highway where Season 2 began

You want spoilers for tonight’s The Walking Dead season finale? That’s going to be a tall order, amigos, because AMC has carried out an almost complete blackout on preview information. Even an official synopsis seems to be lacking in detail.

Which you can kind of understand, considering they screwed up and revealed Shane’s death before it actually happened on the show. Here’s all they’re giving away on the finale, which is titled Beside The Dying Fire:

Rick and Carl return from the woods to find the farm in jeopardy. The group is split up in the ensuing chaos. With things looking grim, Rick’s leadership is questioned.

Okay, so the episode picks up from last week’s jaw-dropping conclusion. Rick killed Shane with his knife, but turned to see Carl pointing a gun at him. As Rick stammered an explanation, Carl emptied a bullet into Zombie Shane’s forehead with pinpoint accuracy. In the trailer that follows, we see Carl asking Rick what happened, as a herd of starving walkers heads in their direction.

Glenn (Steven Yeun) in Beside The Dying FireWhat can we assume?

Well, there will be death. Of that you can be sure. A bunch of zombies are headed toward Herschel’s farm, and this will be the final test of whether the farm’s defences are adequate. They probably aren’t.

We’re assuming that this is the point where Rick’s posse will eventually move on from the farm and on to pastures new. (Apologies for the pastures pun) As to who survives, that’s an interesting question. The conversation between Lori and Andrea about fighting alongside the men versus helping with household chores comes to mind: will there be a situation where one survives and the other dies?

Also, after the chatter on our Theories About The Zombie Virus post, is it possible that Rick knew Shane would become a zombie? If the scientist in the CDC whispered that everyone was a carrier – and Rick knew this – then the smart move would have been to stab Shane in the head immediately after he died. But then, Rick’s not known for always doing the smart thing.

Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) in The Walking Dead season finale

Are Daryl and Carol (hey, that rhymes!) heading off into the sunset together?

Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) in The Walking Dead season finale

Is Rick doing a spot of soul-searching after killing Shane?

Will new characters emerge?

That’s the question on everybody’s lips tonight. With Dale and Shane recently joining the dead, our group of survivors has dwindled quite a bit. And there are likely to be a few less after tonight’s Walking Dead finale!

There’s a lot of speculation that we might be getting our first glimpse of The Governor or even samurai-sword weilding survivor Michonne. Either way, the spoiler blackout means that we’re literally in the dark about how Beside The Dying Fire will end. Can’t wait for tonight!
