The Voice: Alessandra Guercio and Kayla Nevarez Battle for Team Adam
Adam Levine chose Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” as the ultimate battle for Alessandra Guercio and Kayla Nevarez to compete on The Voice. The girls weren’t sure why he put them together, but he defended the decision with wanting to make “great performances” more than choosing based on strategy. He feels that Kayla has great strength, while Alessandra has a great tone. Mary J. Blige tells the girls to loosen up. She felt Alessandra was enunciating the words too much.
With help both girls nailed the songs in rehearsals after working on their pitch. Adam was worried Kayla would go sharp. She took the advice and came out fighting.
The girls delivered an emotional performance. Not only were their voices perfect for this ballad, but they sold the song with outstanding emotion. Kayla has such a unique breathy voice, while Alessandra has an incredible vibrato and almost rock scream. It was a hard choice for Adam to choose which girl would have to leave.
- Blake Shelton: Alessandra I really enjoy when your voice gets that raspy voice way more than the vibrato. It’s opposite for you Kayla.. Dang Adam, this is a sucky one for you.
- Christina Aguilera: The one thing I can’t wait for both of you to do is to tap exactly into who you are.
- Cee Lo Green: Kayla that soft sound in your voice is enduring and precious. I’m not sure if that’s a winning quality.. I think Alessandra shows she can have a softer side and can be aggressive. If I had to choose I would go with Alessandra.
- Adam Levine: Alessandra- the energy was there on stage, but the vocals were almost too trained. Kayla- You got a little bit of nerves. You both had your issues, but we all do.
It was a tough decision for Adam, but in the end Kayla’s confidence won the battle for her. No worries for Alessandra though, Christina Aguilera stole Alessandra for her power pop team.
