Submit Your X Factor Video Submissions by December 31!

The X Factor USA may not get the ratings American Idol does, but if The X Factor’s done anything for US talent competitions, it’s emerged technology right where it needs to be in the competitions.

Unlike American Idol, The X Factor allowed contestants to first audition through YouTube videos. Marcus Canty, tonight’s eliminated act, was one of these auditions. One of the most significant changes was that The X Factor encouraged Twitter voting. Yup, direct messaging @thexfactorusa with your votes every week. During live broadcasts, hash tags were used by viewers to talk about the show. Some of these tweets, regardless how controversial, were incorporated into the show. A little trick picked up by The Voice, just perfected by The X Factor.

It’s likely we’ll see these techniques used in other competitions, especially if they work well. The good news is The X Factor is getting ready for the second season, even if the finale airs next week. X Factor hopefuls can submit their YouTube videos through December 31 for consideration for the second season.

Contestants simply need to make the video, upload it to the social network and submit through the official X Factor website. At a later date contestants can visit MyStudio Booth Auditions around the country for a similar on-site process (ask Drew how this worked for her audition!).

Don’t forget, The X Factor finale airs 12/21 and 12/22 at 8/7c on Fox.
