Is Santigold waging war on Lady Gaga and Katy Perry in Big Mouth?

Santigold in the Big Mouth video

Santi White (aka Santigold) has dropped a bonkers new video for a new single called Big Mouth. It’s so ridiculously lo-fi, even the techno artistes of the early 90s would have balked at it.

Our eagle eyed readers will have spotted a couple of cartoon cameo appearances – one from a mermaid which looks like Lady Gaga. A surreal underwater cougar eats the Gaga mermaid but spits out the crown, which is later presented to Santigold. Symbolism much? The other is a blue-haired naked chick stroking a cat which is saying TGIF. No prizes for guessing this one’s supposed to be Katy Perry. Check out the Big Mouth video after the jump:

The question is, if Santigold is courting controversy by outing Gaga and Perry as ‘big mouths’, then surely that puts her in the same category? Although we’re sure she wouldn’t mind being in the same stratospheric level of fame as those two pop queens. We’d love to hear your take on what the video (and lyrical references) to other popstars mean.

First impressions of Big Mouth – it’s an eclectic, crazy song laced with ethnic beats and an almost playground-taunting style of vocal delivery from Santi herself. We might be on our 15th listen here at Unreality HQ. Big Mouth is the lead single from Santigold’s forthcoming second album, Master Of My Make Believe. She’s certainly the master of her own unique niche.
