Song Of The Day: Something's Gotta Give by River Seven
For our song of the day today, we’ve chosen the stunningly gifted Canadian band River Seven and their brilliant new track Something’s Gotta Give. Taken from the band’s eponymous debut album, it’s an irresistible slice of blues-injected pop-rock, and a fantastic showcase for River Seven’s talents.

Canadians are making music now? Oi! Canadians have been enriching the world of music since way before Justin Bieber was a blob of sperm swimming upstream! And River Seven follow in this tradition, making almost flawless accessible pop-rock tunes. They’ve been aptly described as Maroon 5 meets John Mayer.
So, who are River Seven? The dapper-looking dude in the picture above is Michael Bongertman, the band’s frontman. Already a disgustingly soulful vocalist with an incredibly bluesy turn of phrase, he makes things worse by being an incredible lead guitarist too. Bongertman founded the band in 2010 and is joined by Tony Carpino on drums and bassist Pete Anzelmo.
Influence check: The band’s influences read like an encyclopaedia of classic rock – from The Beatles to Fleetwood Mac to Steve Miller and Van Halen. I think that tells you all you need to know about their credentials, really. And their debut album has a cover of a personal favourite of mine, Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix. And let me tell you, Bongertman acquits himself beautifully on the guitar solo!
