Noisettes are back with a fantastic new single called Winner
Happy Monday, everybody! We’ve got some good news this morning in the form of a brilliant new tune from the Noisettes – Winner.
And yes, we are fighting the urge to be lazy bloggers and call this “a winner of a single”. Even though it kind of is. Winner starts off sounding like a rock anthem (that “Eagle has landed” gives us a distinctly early 80s Survivor vibe), but smoothly transforms into a disco track, but still punctuated by stabs of distorted guitar.
The band – consisting of singersinger Shingai Shoniwa, guitarist Dan Smith and drummer Jamie Morrison – have been in the US of A working hard on their as-yet-untitled third album. Winner is the first glimpse of the Noisettes’ new material.
Shingai talks about the band’s diverse tastes in music and what keeps them together:
Some bands stick with the same style forever. They get together because they share identical musical tastes, then never do anything different. We’re a gang, but we’re also two divas with different record collections who constantly introduce each other to new sounds, whether it’s African music, jazz, our own modern hybrid of soul music or new adventures in dance music, there always remains the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll without the cliché’s. For us, making music means keeping our ears open.
Have a listen to the song yourselves – if you loved Don’t Upset The Rhythm, you’re going to love this tune. The Noisettes constantly surprise us by coming up with tunes like this that sound modern and classic at the same time. Can’t wait to hear more:
Winner is due to be released on 9th July 2012.
