New Maroon 5 single ft Wiz Khalifa – Payphone (Lyric Video)

That Adam Levine is one busy dude. When he’s not coaching on The Voice, or guesting on singles, he’s finding the time to record an entire new album with Maroon 5. Their fourth studio album, Overexposed, is slated for release on June 26, 2012, and we’re now getting to hear the first single from the album, Payphone, featuring mega-rapper Wiz Khalifa.

Maroon 5 with Wiz KhalifaPayphone marks what could be the poppiest sound from Maroon 5 yet – Adam’s falsetto is put to good work, as ever, with a killer radio-friendly chorus. But the sweetness of the tune might be deceptive, because the track is littered with expletives which suggest someone’s a little frustrated with a relationship that’s gone wrong.

Oh, and like everyone else, we’re finding the notion of using a payphone a bit 20th Century retro. But if that’s how Adam Levine wants to sing about heartbreak, then who are we to stop him?

Plenty of music pundits are watching this new Maroon 5 release with interest. They’ve drafted in hitmaker Max Martin to help them with production duties and the band are collaborating with other songwriters more than ever. The reason? Lacklustre sales of their last album, Hands All Over.

Still, Mr Levine’s been out raising his profile in the last year or so, which should certainly help draw attention to the band’s latest single. And though Payphone isn’t perhaps as strong as the omnipresent Moves Like Jagger, it’s got summer hit written all over it.
