Mutiny On The Bounty – Artefacts
With a name like Mutiny On The Bounty, you might have expected a pirate-themed rock act. Lame deduction, I know, but nothing would surprise me these days.
The band has however come to us by way of Luxembourg. Yes, that booming mecca of rock music. We got our hands on the foursome’s latest track, Artefacts, which shows the band are experimenting with some imaginative new sounds.
Artefacts is a cacophony of sounds and textures – rumbling bass grooves, an irresistible beat, and layers of guitars culminating in some very interesting twin guitar harmonies. The cool kids are calling it Math Rock, but great music transcends faddy labels, and whatever you call it Mutiny are making some cracking tunes.
The band have actually been together since 2004 and have toured with the hallowed likes of Franz Ferdinand (back when they were popular) and Kings Of Leon. They’re planning a fresh onslaught on eardrums around the globe with their second album Trials and a new record label in the UK’s Best Before Records. Mutiny recorded the new album with in Seattle with top producer Matt Bayles, famous for his work with Pearl Jam, Mastodon, Isis and Fall Of Troy.
The band have indicated that the change of label may have given them more freedom to pursue other sounds:
We’re delighted to announce that we’ve signed to Best Before Records to release our second album, “Trials”, an album that finally showcases the sound we have always wanted for the band. Best Before has released album for bands such as Dananananaykroyd, 22, Johnny Foreigner and Sharks and we really can’t wait to come back to the UK and play you the new material…
The album will be released on August 6th 2012, preceded by the single Artefacts on July 26th. If you want to hear more from Mutiny On The Bounty, check them out on Facebook and Twitter.
