Most Shocking Moments of 2011- American Idol
2011 was a big year for American Idol. Not only did the judges table get nearly a complete make over, but the talent was the strongest ever. With 13, yes 13- not 12, talented individuals, it’s a high possibility the season will be full of drama. Season 10 did not disappoint, especially with these five shocking moments.
Pia Toscano’s early elimination. The 22-year-old crooner was one of the judges favorites from the beginning. It’s undeniable that no one on the show had half the vocal ability that Pia has, but she lacked one thing everyone else did have- stage presence. America grew bored and she was eliminated in ninth place. It was a shocking, tearful goodbye.
Casey Abrams getting the save! This season Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez had the ability to overturn the public’s vote one time. When Casey was eliminated in the tenth place, the judges did not want to see him go yet. They were all confident that he would make it far, even had the potential to win. Casey turned white and almost passed out when they made the decision. Bummer for Casey is he didn’t even make it into the top four. Wonder if the judges regretted their decision when Pia went home the next week?
Naima Adedapo added to the top 12, as number 13. The Milwaukee native was definitely unique compared to the other 12 contestants on the show, so much that Steven Tyler fought to keep her in the competition. It was a nice change at first.. That is until the truly talented individuals were sent home and she stayed on for an extra week or two.
James Durbin making it only to fourth place! When James Durbin did not make it to the semifinals, even the “rocker” was stunned. The judges couldn’t believe it because they felt he was one that was likely to win the tenth season, but fans of the show disagreed. He may have been too theatrical or no wholesome Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery. Good news for his fans- his debut album is out, he’s doing just fine.
Lee DeWyze’s snub of the American Idol finale. This year last season’s American Idol winner says he wasn’t asked to the finale, but it appeared that he was slowly cutting all ties with the franchise. It’s hard for the songwriters to have the freedom they want, so it’s likely that DeWyze wanted to simply have a singing career. Since snubbing the finale, DeWyze was “let go” from his record contract as well.
