Is Xena Warrior Princess Set to Return To Our Screens? Lucy Lawless teases a revival…

Lucy Lawless as Xena

Legendary fantasy series Xena Warrior Princess left our screens 12 years go after a 6 year run between 1995 and 2001. A lot of fans were sad to see it go and it seems as though there has been some sort of fan movement, trying to get it revived or rebooted. This might be one of those stories of fan power, because there might be some good news for XWP franchsise.

Original Xena actress Lucy Lawless has been hinting around on twitter that she has been approached to bring the TV show back from the dead. Check out her tweets below:

It is the real Lucy Lawless, so we don’t have to worry about this being a rumour. But, it is important to note that she says there is a lot red tape around the franchise returning. Further research has led me to discover that the movie company does not own all of the rights to XWP and they don’t think it is worth it to them to share the rights with another entity. This is not the first time this has happened in the TV/Movie world. The X Files franchise is at a stand still at the moment, despite a heavy fan following and fan scheme to get Fox to green light another movie. In this case, the creator wants to do another movie but the network owns the rights and don’t think it is worth the money.

And I’m pretty sure there’s an avid grassroots movement who would welcome a return of the cult Sci-Fi series FireFly.

I hope the people behind Xena Warrior Princess can come to some sort of an agreement because it did make money and it would be a shame to see the franchise be stuck in limbo with the fans begging for more, just like with The X Files.

For those wishing for a XWP return, note that Lucy Lawless may have already ruled herself out of the role, stating that she is too old to play Xena. However, the actress herself hasn’t been stuck for work in recent years. She starred in the excellent Starz series, Spartacus, and she’s recently been appearing as the love interest for Parks & Recreation’s Ron Swanson.

Let me know what you guys think in the comments box down below. Should Xena return to our screens? Who would you like to see play Xena? Will the movie company resolve it’s issues before it is too late?
