Live Blog: American Idol – Aspen Auditions

San Diego, Savannah and Pittsburgh auditions are over. Just what does American Idol have in store for us in Aspen?

Jenni Schick  Sterling, VA Music teacher “Heartbreaker” by Pat Benatar 26 years old. She and her boyfriend will be happy that she’ll be around the man on her “list,” Steven Tyler, and the man on his “list,” Ryan Seacrest, until at least the end of Hollywood week. Tyler even made her dreams come true with a nice kiss. Though her voice was good, it wasn’t as memorable as the events leading up to her audition.

Curtis Gray, 28 from Florida “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” by Boyz II Men. Did anyone else find his audition surprising? I did not expect such a smooth, pop sound from this rough-looking rocker. Good work putting him through, judges!

Richie Law, 19 from Colorado- The next Scotty McCreery? His voice was deep and impressive, but let’s face it- he’s not as adorable as Mr. McCreery. He has plenty of time to prove us wrong in Hollywood.

Tealana Hedgespeth, 19 “Bring Me Some Water” by Melissa Etheridge. Tealana feels she can outshine her twin sister just once. For 19 years she’s lived in her twin’s shadow because she has a beautiful voice and can act. Well Tealana.. A+ for effort. That was so sad and painful.. at least she has her personality going for her. The judges did not think the singing “is there yet.” Is that the American Idol equivalent to “It’s not me, it’s you?”

Haley Smith, 18 from a log cabin in the middle of the mountains aka Orem, Utah. “Tell Me Something Good” by Rufus and Chaka Khan . Haley has a great vibrato to her voice as she turned the R&B song into her own. She’s easily comparable to Joss Stone, but she needs to work on shouting less.

Alanna Snare, 22 Fort Collins from Colorado “Jolene” by Dolly Parton. What is with these reality contestants and their educating the world of bull testicles (see The Bachelor as well)? After watching her audition, maybe she should cut back on the “prairie oysters.” The judges were not impressed either.

Shelby Tweten, 17 from Minnesota. Shelby shared with the world her pains of living with bipolar disorder. Singing is a way for her to express her emotions and stay stable, and it also is a reason to stay on her medication. There’s no denying that Shelby has a beautiful singing voice, but will she be able to handle the pressure of American Idol?

Jairon Jackson, 19 from Denver, Colorado. After The X Factor auditions, and success of Chris Rene, every contestant should have faith in their own music. J-Ron definitely does with “So Tell Me.” Though his friends though using the song was a bad idea, they were clearly wrong. It showed he can not only sing, but he’s creative as well. And.. he’s on to Hollywood!

Angie Zeiderman, 25.  Wow. Just like her idol Lady Gaga, Angie would be good if she didn’t try so hard to “perform.” Her voice is good and she has a personality, but that’s not needed to sell records or stick out. Over performing can distract people from the fact that you don’t have the talent you think you do… Three yes’s for the “vintage glitter queen.” We’ll see if she sticks around.

Magic Cyclops from Davenport, Iowa. Magic’s persona is great. The thing with Magic is he performed Neil Diamond and did a great impression of him. Impression.. that’s the key word. He was so bad that the judges walked out on him.
Who was your favorite Aspen audition?
