(Video) Lauren Gray sings Adele's 'One And Only' at American Idol's St Louis auditions
22 year old Lauren Gray sang Adele’s One And Only for her American Idol audition in St. Louis. The talented musician from Hardy, Arkansas had originally wanted to audition for the show back in 2005, but Hurricane Katrina scuppered her plans!
Lauren is the lead singer for Arkansas band Backflash (watch her perform with them) and also performs with the Gray Blues Band at the Creekside Loft in Hardy. So she’s a busy girl and well used to performing. Lauren’s parents, Mike and Debbie Gray, run the local Hardy businesses Petals and Lace and Creekside Lofts. Lauren describes her father as “weddings by day, rock star by night”. Sort of like Batman with confetti.
Lauren’s version of One And Only was a bluesy-rock treat tonight. As a singer, she’s got a powerful voice that really projects, and when she sang, there was no mistaking that she’s a confident performer. You only had to look at a rapt Steven Tyler and a slack-jawed Jennifer Lopez to see that the judges were impressed with Lauren’s audition.
“Wow!” is the word on everyone’s lips. Jennifer Lopez says “I didn’t need to hear that song right now.” Steven Tyler says “I think I love the way you break. When you deliver a note like that and you can get up there and break like that, it’s the sexiest thing on the planet.” Lopez calls Lauren “one of the best female voices we’ve heard”. As Lauren leaves, Jennifer predicts that big things are going to happen for her.
Needless to say, Lauren walks away from the St. Louis auditions with a Golden Ticket to Hollywood!
