Now that American Idol wound down for the season with Candice Glover named this year’s winner, it’s only appropriate to use this time for reflection. This season American Idol saw it’s lowest ratings to date, even with the “big” finale. Only 14.3 million viewers tuned in to see if Kree Harrison or Candice would be crowned winner. This is a 33 percent drop from years before.

We’ve tried to contemplate over the last few months as to why this continued to happen- a bad chemistry between the judges, the familiarity of the show, the fresh competition of The Voice and The X Factor, but no one has a true answer. Producers tried to save the show and make it new with a different audition process as well as a new layout for the live results show. Both of these changes were positive, but far less people tuned in to see either. Producers even reached out to popular past contestants to help draw in viewers from past seasons, but nothing could save the ratings.

A dull finale didn’t help matters any. Two girls that sing ballads well does not make for exciting TV. It doesn’t help when they’re best friends and there’s no drama unfolding before us. Let’s not forget that there was a clear winner between the two, so no one even needed to truly watch the last night to see who would win. Jessie J, Adam Lambert, Travis Barker, The Band Perry and J.Lo couldn’t even draw in the viewers. We’d like to defend the ratings saying American Idol was up against popular shows, but often it was reruns!

Past contestants, such as Taylor Hicks, are not shy to say that it’s time for American Idol to end. Critics even think the dip in ratings means that fewer people care about the show. However, many ignore that American Idol is actually a positive part of pop culture.

I’ll start with the obvious- it’s not violent, it’s not offensive (ignoring painful auditions..) and it’s tasteful. However, American Idol is more than wholesome television. It gives people a reason to dream if they truly want to be the next big music star. In the 12th season we saw so many people audition that said they’ve dreamed of being on the show since they watched season one when they were six or since they fell in love with artists who have been on the show. It’s true that American Idol is more than just a show, for some people it is a dream regardless what the ratings say. And in all honesty.. maybe compared to years past 14.3 million is a low number, but that’s still 14 million people who cared enough to tune in.

Despite fans of the show watching ratings tumble all season, but there’s no need to fear- Ryan Seacrest confirmed during the finale that the show would return for a 13th season. Maybe Fox sees that there is a need for Idol as well.

The internet managed to hush up the details of the Doctor Who series 7 finale quite nicely this week, so the BBC have made good on their promise to deliver a video of Matt Smith and David Tennant. The duo are together in this clip where they talk about what’s in store for the 50th Anniversary of the show.

It’s incredibly weird to watch David Tennant back in his brown pinstripe suit, and you can tell the fellow has aged ever so slightly since the last time he held a sonic screwdriver. Still, the pair reminisce for the cameras about advice that Tennant gave Smith when they were handing over the role. And the two acknowledged that working on the show is the “best fun ever”, but that only people who’ve been in the role will understand the pressure of becoming part of a national institution.

Tennant refers to it as “an unusual set of pressures”.

As for their characters uniting in the 50th anniversary episode, they tease that the two Doctors get on rather well, although they bicker “a bit”. David Tennant says that “they quite enjoy each others very presence”. They tease that there’s another character on the episode who’s bemused by the pair. Now, could that have been one of the companions – Jenna Louise Coleman or Billie Piper – or could it be…get ready for spoilers…(right after the video – don’t scroll down if you don’t want to know!

This is blistering, groundbreaking stuff for the series, and it opens up a storyline which could bear incredible consequences for the show. Little Monsters will be so glad to know that Lady Gaga is back on her feet and is recovering well following her hip surgery.

Gaga has attended a few “pretty low-key” events over the last few weeks to ease her back into the swing of things.

Back at the beginning of May, Gaga took to the stage for the first time since her surgery to perform with jazz star, Brian Newman at the Rose Bar in New York City.

He took to twitter to thank the global superstar: “Thanks to the 1&only @ladygaga for coming out to @GPHhotell tonight an singing a song!! @tommylondon @angiepontani @mrmartye @thedirtypearls (sic)”.

Gaga was also spotted wearing platform boots and a black mini-dress on Wednesday as she attended the Versus Versace launch party in New York City with her beau, Taylor Kinney. She even posted an exclusive picture online for her fans, which can be seen below:

A source told Us Weekly: “They were pretty low-key in the VIP section”.

Apparently, a couple of tracks from the singer’s forthcoming album, ARTPOP were played at the event.

She has been seen dotted around the city over the last few weeks, even attending the premiere of The Great Gatsby last week.

The Born This Way singer had to pull the plug on her The Born This Way Ball world tour earlier this year when she tore her right hip, she was also diagnosed with synovitis – a severe inflammation of the joints.

Gaga knew about the issue weeks before she told her fans, but carried on throughout the pain as she didn’t want to let down her Little Monsters. In one video, filmed on a fans cell phone, Gaga is heard screaming in pain during one of her performances.

On doctor’s orders, Gaga had to cancel the remainder of the tour and undergo immediate surgery on her hip. She has since been recovering and getting around using a 24-Karat gold plated custom Louis Vuitton wheelchair, which she named Emma after one of her fans.

However, the good news is that Gaga is on the mend and should be back to normal very soon!

The Saturdays have today released a teaser for the forthcoming Gentleman video.

It seems the video is as wacky as the track, with the girls dancing in front of a floral background – the background is blinding as Kim Kardashian’s floral dress, seriously.

Gentleman is the third single to be taken from the band’s forthcoming, yet untitled, forth studio album. I do hope the single isn’t a taster of what the album is going to sound like – as it’s pants. Between the rapping, singing and cheerleader-esque chanting, I can’t hear myself think. Maybe the girls took inspiration from Girls Aloud’s Something New?

The track was written by Priscilla Renea, who has written some crackers for the likes of Cheryl Cole and Rihanna, but Gentleman seems to fall flat on its face – Sorry Sat’s fans.

The full video meanwhile, is set to be unveiled on 23rd May via The Saturdays’ official VEVO page.

The single will be released on June 30th, if you’re really interested in buying it…

So, it turns out my pregnant-dar needs fixing, as Beyoncé IS indeed preggers!

Sources have “exclusively confirmed” to E! News this evening that the superstar is expecting her second child, which means Blue Ivy is going to be a big sis!

The news of the pregnancy follows multiple rumours that Beyoncé is pregnant. First, fans camera phone shots surfaced online showing what need to be an ever growing bump.

Secondly came the Givenchy high-waisted dress with a patterned belt at the Met Gala last week, this sent the internet into a complete frenzy and the other day, the Single Ladies singer had to cancel a show due to “exhaustion and dehydration” – more like morning sickness!!

Although Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s reps have not commented on the situation at hand, E! is smitten with their sources – so we believe them, for now.

No more information is known at the moment such as gender of the baby or when she is expected to pop.

However, the news comes days after Bey has been threatened with being blacklisted from the NPPA due to banning the world’s professional photographers from taking pictures whilst she is on tour.

In a letter to Beyoncé, the NPPA said that lifting the ban will most likely result in fair pictures of the star being published in the world’s press, adding that if she does not lift the ban soon, she ma be blacklisted by the National Press Photographers Association.

The BBC have just released an enigmatic teaser clip for The Name Of The Doctor, the Doctor Who season finale that airs tomorrow. It’s an incredibly short clip, featuring Clara in the kitchen with the two kids she nannys for. And guess what? She’s making souffle!

In the clip, Clara (Jenna Louise Coleman) receives a mysterious letter (it actually looks like it came from Hogwarts, with spidery writing and a seal – she should look outside for owl droppings). Inside the letter Clara reads:

My dearest Clara, The Doctor entrusted me with your contact details in the event of an emergency. And I fear one has now arisen.

It’s all deliciously vague – and we’re not sure who the sender is. While we’re speculating that it’s River Song, there’s an outside chance that it was actually sent by Vastra. In fact, it sounds like Vastra’s voice in the narration for the letter.

Also, there’s weird writing on the envelope where the stamp should be. How do you think it was delivered and what does it mean? And also – is anyone else a tiny bit disappointed that the letter wasn’t in the familiar TARDIS blue that Amy and Rory received in a similar situation?

As you rabid Whovians will already know, the season finale promises to not only reveal the long-held secret of what The Doctor’s name is, but it will also reveal exactly who Clara is and why she’s so ‘impossible’.

Last weekend, the Internet blew up when it was revealed that a US distributor has started shipping DVDs of the Series 7b including the season finale episode. Suspiciously though, the internet has remained completely spoiler free. The BBC and Steven Moffat had promised that if this happens, they will air a clip of David Tennant and Matt Smith after the episode airs on Saturday night. And while it’ll be amazing to have the teaser of the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors together, we get a feeling that this clip was already queued up.

You’re not going to believe this, but all of the coaches are returning to The Voice next year. It looks like the coaches will be playing musical chairs as The Voice returns for Seasons 5 and 6.

We’ve heard that original flavor coaches Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green will be returning for the fifth season of the show. Both took time off to work on musical projects. Christina released her latest album, Lotus, and Cee Lo has been performing in Las Vegas (as well as possibly negotiating his own reality TV show on TBS.

But when the singing competition returns for season 6, Aguilera and Green will be gone again, and Shakira and Usher will both be stepping back in as coaches. This leaves it up to Adam Levine and Blake Shelton to be the only constants on the show, although how long they’ll last running two seasons per year gives us cause for concern. And Shelton and Levine are arguably the lynchpins holding the chemistry of the show together.

It’ll be interesting to see how audiences respond to having the middle two seats on the show rotating over the next year. Which panel lineup do you prefer? Usher and Shakira, or Christina and Cee Lo? Let us know in the comments…

Midnight. That’s the deadline Norma has been given for the Bates Motel first season finale. She’s got to deliver $150,000 to Jake Abernathy or else he starts gunning down her family.

Still, being blackmailed by a sex trafficker and hardened killer shouldn’t stop the entire Bates clan for having some fun, so Norman is going to take Emma to the prom, oxygen tank and all. I can’t wait to see how they work in a dance with her tank in tow!

The synopsis for Midnight is here. It’s hardly giving the game away:

Romero decides to take action; Norman brings Emma to the dance; Norman gets a ride home from Miss Watson.

First up, it looks like Norma isn’t going to go into this meeting with Abernathy without a contingency plan. He gives her a chilling phone call to remind her about their ‘appointment’, and she goes to Dylan looking for a gun.

The other issue is…has she actually found $150,000 in the motel? I don’t remember that happening, so presumably there’s money stashed somewhere. (My guess: inside the clock on the mantelpiece) So, if Norma takes out Abernathy, she can potentially find the money, cut her losses on the motel and move to a town that isn’t a haven for murderous lunatics.

We can see Romero saying that he’ll take care of something – again, assuming that it’s Abernathy. Will he be present when Norma goes to the meeting?

As for Norman, he’s off on a not-quite-date with Emma. Yet, right at the end of this trailer, we can see him rushing somewhere yelling “Mother!” in that cringey voice he uses. After watching mother and son share a bed in the last episode, I’m a little bit creeped out by Norman and Norma at this point.

It was five years in the making as a girl would be named the American Idol winner! Candice Glover and Kree Harrison brought their best game last night, but only one would be crowned winner.

Who would win the $1 million prize and recording contract?

The show kicked off with an interesting performance from the top ten of The Wanted’s “Glad You Came.” It was a good song choice for the group because it’s shouty enough for a large group of people to sing whose voices don’t blend well. Though it was an average performance, it was refreshing to see guys an girls taking stage.

Frankie Valli soon joined the top five guys on stage for a medley of Four Seasons hits. With Devon Velez, Lazaro Arbos, Curtis Finch Jr., Paul Jolly and Burnell Taylor on stage we were reminded that there were guys in this competition at one point, but at the same time they are no where near as good as the ladies of Idol 2013.

American Idol judge Mariah Carey took stage next with a medley of some of her biggest hits “Vision of Love,” “Make It Happen,” “My All,” “Hero,” “We Belong Together,” and her current single “Beautiful.” The performances didn’t flow very well together, but it showed just why Mariah Carey has every right to sit at the judges table with such huge hits under her belt. The only awkward part was when she’d try to talk over the parts she was suppose to be miming!

Amber Holcomb returned to the Idol stage next with Emile Sande to perform “Next to Me.” The duet proved that a big voice like Amber can easily blend on today’s radio. She’s young, perky and perhaps more marketable than both ladies in the finale.

Keith Urban livened the show up after an odd performance from Psy. “Little Bit of Everything” wasn’t as flashy as Mariah’s performance or as memorable as Keith’s second appearance on the finale, but it perfectly showed Keith’s laid back approach to life. Performing comes natural to him, and most importantly he just looked like he was up there having fun.

It was time to turn the focus to one of the two finalists shortly after as Jennifer Hudson returned to American Idol for a performance of “Inseperable” with Candice. This was the perfect pair as Jennifer has just as big and effortless voice as Candice. She’s great inspiration to anyone who doesn’t win Idol as well.

And finally the moment most of us were waiting for.. Angie Miller returned! Behind her piano Angie and Adam Lambert took on the hit “Titanium.” Not only did their voices match perfectly together, but the chemistry they had while performing was undeniable. Even wiser- American Idol continues to show what superstar have resulted from this staple in American television with the return of another past Idol contestant. Angie then broke into “Domino” with her idol Jessie J. Again their voices blended so well, but the best part was easily the energy they had on stage. Angie looked simply like she was relaxed and having a blast while doing what she does best.

Though Angie stole the show, Kree delivered perhaps the most memorable performance of Keith Urban’s “Where the Blacktop Ends.” Of course Kree sounded good, but it’s the first time we’ve ever seen Randy Jackson play on American Idol! That’s right, the judge played bass while Keith rocked out on guitar and Blink 182′s Travis Barker played drums while Kree sang her heart out. Could you possibly get a wider range of people? It’s definitely the performance I’ll remember most!

It was then time for the top five girls to return with the help of Aretha Franklin. With five divas taking over American Idol, it’s only appropriate that the producers find someone who was powerful enough to outshine these ladies! Aretha couldn’t fly in to appear on the show, but performed a medley with the girls live via satellite. Despite having more starpower behind them, when comparing the guys had a far more entertaining medley to work with.

Former Idol judge Jennifer Lopez closed the show with Pitbull and her new single. Though Mariah Carey did well as a judge and Nicki Minaj managed not to kill her, it was bittersweet seeing the former Idol on stage. She definitely brings a different dynamic to Idol. The good news is she’s not opposed to coming back!

It was then time. Candice and Kree took stage and reminded us one last time why they are the last two ladies standing. Kree and Candice exchanged words before Ryan Seacrest announced that it was Candice Glover who is this year’s American Idol.

Though Kree didn’t win, we know that this is not the end for her. It’s likely we’ll hear from all of the top five ladies in the near future.

Jessie J has announced the title of her brand new single this evening, Wild.

Wild will serve as the first single to be taken from Jessie’s upcoming and yet untitled second studio album – which, after much speculation, will not be called Wish – read on to find out.

The single will also be Jessie’s first worldwide single and it seems the superstar isn’t going lightly on the collaborations either as Big Sean and Dizzee Rascal feature on the single.

Jessie broke the news this evening, tweeting: “MY FIRST WORLDWIDE SINGLE IS CALLED ‘WILD’ Feat @BigSean and @DizzeeRascal GO to http://www.jessiejofficial.com to let the fun begin! #jessiejwild”

Jessie’s official website has also had a makeover, with a picture of Jessie standing in front of a golden and glittering “W”, possibly standing for “Wish” or “Wild” as a line of lyrics also feature on the home page.

The lyrics read: “Everything starts with a WISH, but everything can be real”.

As if the news of brand new material wasn’t enough to excite all you Heartbeats out there, Jessie has even posted a clip of her in the studio recording her new single.

It is currently unknown when the single is set to be released, but it is thought it will be coming very soon with the video having already been shot.

UPDATE: Since writing this article, Jessie has confirmed that her forthcoming second studio album will not be titled, Wish.

She confirmed the news via her Twitter page this afternoon upon answering questions from Fans.

The tweet reads: “No “@H3ArtB3at43vA: @JessieJ is your second album called ‘wish’ ???”"
