Fresh from her hit collaboration with Professor Green and her BRITs Critics Choice Award this year, 2012 is the year of Emeli Sandé. So fans of the Scottish singer will be pleased to know that she’s got a new solo single coming out – Next To Me – and she’s just released the video for it.

Featuring just Emeli and her drummer in a warehouse, Next To Me combines gospel and soul influences, but with that magical secret ingredient that makes Sandé’s music so absolutely contemporary. We find ourselves agreeing with Soul Culture, who single out the simplicity of the track and video as why this is such a fantastic track:

The Glaswegian singer, songwriter keeps it quite simple for the visual accompaniment to “Next To Me” which is comprised mainly of her performing the song on a piano in an abandoned aircraft hanger with a drummer, spliced with straight to camera performance shots, but the simplicity of the visuals only amplifies the beauty of the single

The track will be the third single Emeli’s debut album Our Version Of Events, following on from the success of Heaven and Daddy. Both the single and album are released on 13th February.
