Continuum: renewed for season 3 and ‘Second Degree’ spoilers

Julian's trial in Continuum Second Degree

Last week’s episode of Continuum ended on a big reveal we’ve been waiting ages for. A game changer. For the first time Kiera confided in Carlos the truth about who she is and where she’s from. But because this is Continuum, do you think she and Carlos will be given time to work out what this means for their ongoing partnership?

Well, we’ll have to push those thoughts aside as Julian Randol’s trial approaches and Liber8 (who’ve been quiet for a couple of weeks) resurface to mess with the proceedings. It’s constantly fascinating that Julian is considered such an asset by the Liber8 crew based on his future potential. Considering he’s virtually been a pawn thus far, it’ll be interesting to see what happens to him in this episode… Here’s the episode synopsis for Second Degree.

Kiera and Carlos desperately try to thwart Liber8’s vow to attack Julian’s trial as an accomplice to the City Plaza bombing. Fork-in-the-road time for Alec; it’s come to the point where he must tell his family the truth about what he’s been doing – or betray them.

If the teaser trailer for Second Opinion is anything to go by, it looks like Julian’s trial is going to bring Alec and his mother back together. We see the two of them talking on the courthouse steps, but Alec seems upset by something she’s done. We’ve got to assume this has something to do with Julian’s trial and possibly Alec’s part in events – judging by the line in the synopsis that says he must tell his family the truth.

Elsewhere, Kiera is concerned about a kidnapping that suggests Liber8 are trying to derail the trial. At first I thought they were trying to spring Julian, but perhaps it looks more like they’re trying to keep him locked up.

And finally, slimy Jim Martin (aka Tahmoh Penikett) is making a return, with a promise that:

I can’t change the past, but I’m here hoping to change the future.

And in a public statement, he says the public should be outraged. Could this be the wheels in the motion for a privatised police force that will lead to the creation of the Protectors that Kiera is part of in the future? And could it be that the Protectors essentially become an army owned by the private sector who have a role when the governments are finally overthrown and the corporations sieze control? Have a look at the trailer and tell me what you think.

We’re also going to discover a little bit more about what’s going on with Alec’s girlfriend, Emily. Who’s she working for, and will he be devastated when he discovers she has an ulterior motive?

Season 3 Renewal

I love it when a TV network gets behind one of its strongest properties and issues an early renewal. You’ll all be pleased to know that Showcase has greenlit Continuum for a third season, which means more Kiera, more supersuit and more time-travel. And if my suspicions about the remainder of the season are right, the story will be blown wide open over the next five episodes.

Are you pleased about the Continuum renewal news?
