Brother Ali releases new video for ‘Not A Day Goes By’
Okay, if I said these three words, what image does that conjure up? White. Muslim. Rapper.
I’m talking about this dude called Brother Ali. If you’ve heard about him before, then forgive me for raving. I just heard his latest track, Not A Day Goes By, and Ali turns all preconceptions you might have based on those three little words on their head.
The track is an intense burst of 2 and a half minutes of furious rapping, delivered at 200MPH witha healthy dose of anger and humour. The lyrics fly past at impossible speeds, and if you can catch them, they’re blunt and beautiful:
Get up off your ass/go do some work/ain’t no reward without movement first/quit suckin life out the universe
That’s some hard-hitting stuff right there, Brother Ali throwing words at your head like stones. Not A Day Goes By is a track from Ali’s fourth studio album, Mourning In America And Dreaming In Color. The album was conceived following a pilgrimage to Mecca and said to be:
about finding a sense of unity amidst the chaos of the current American political system. It’s about unifying individuals that are otherwise disenfranchised by creating a sense of community and understanding. A community where we are able to see ourselves in each other and are willing to acknowledge and respect our differences.
I love that message. It certainly hits home. Have a listen to the track and spread the love…
